    • Endorsed the overall preliminary plan for the renovation of another phase which will be submitted to the different agencies for professional opinions and further actions like architectural drawings and steps to fulfill government regulations.
    • Different possible structural changes of the church in 2025 in view of the absence of a senior pastor were discussed and tabled for further consideration.
    • In response to the concerns of the deacons, different pastors have submitted proposals to enhance the caring ministry of the three congregations.
    • Offered a four-month extension to Pastor David Chan starting September 1 to December 31, 2024, upon the termination of his contract as lead pastor of the church on August 31. A new contract starting January 1, 2025, as an intentional interim pastor, is under discussion in view of the absence of a new senior pastor.
    • Pastor Jason Ng has successfully completed the evaluation after serving three months in the church.
    • Pastor Audrey’s contract is up for renewal on October 1, 2024. The deacons will discuss with her the new terms of her contract after her staff review group session at the end of July.
    • In view of the needs of the young adults (aged 18 to 28) in the English congregation, the seek of the English intern of children and teens should shift more towards one who can work with the young adults.
    • The lead pastor should take a more holistic approach to coordinate the different responsibilities of different pastors more strategically and collaboratively to minimize duplication of efforts and confusion of roles.

Guidelines for Nomination of Deacons

The nominee should be:

1)     PGMBC church members 21 years of age or above may be nominated for election as deacons;

2)     born again, baptized Christian for at least 2 years (I Tim. 3:6) and is a member of our church (Acts 4:23) and familiar with the church;

3)     monogamous, irreproachable in marital relationship and relationships with the opposite sex (I Tim. 3:2);

4)     of good reputation (I Tim. 3:7/Acts 6:3)

a)        Not indulgent in bad habits or committing immoral or illegal acts;

b)        a testimony in his own personal life and family life (I Tim. 3:4);

5)     exercising full responsibility in matters of offering, being an example unto others (Matt. 6:21, I Cor. 16:2);

6)     of high spiritual caliber (Acts 6:3) and understand the doctrinal truth of the Gospel (I Tim. 3:9); attending the major church meetings regularly (Heb. 10:25) and is concerned with the church’s work; willingly co-operating with others in serving the Lord (I Cor. 12:24);

7)     has presided in other duties eg. Committee chairmanship, Sunday School teachers or others evangelistic works of the Gospel and is recognized as a faithful and responsible worker (I Cor. 4:2, I Tim. 3:10).

  • The pastoral staff, deacons, and department chairs discussed the possible 2025 church organizational structure and personnel arrangement in the absence of a new senior pastor. They also reviewed the pastoral suggestions regarding how to enhance the P.G.M.B.C. of the church in 2025.
  • It was resolved that the church would pay for all the expenses incurred by the pastoral staff as they joined the new pastor’s orientation as required by the Mennonite Brethren Conference before their credentialing with our denomination. It is the strong desire of all four pastors who have just joined the orientation to finish their credentialing before the end of the year.
  • The personnel responsible for the Family Chat from June 21 to 23:
    • Friday (Cantonese 730 – 9pm hybrid) – Pastor David as the facilitator with Rachel as secretary
    • Saturday (Cantonese 5 – 630pm, in person) – Pastor David as the facilitator with Oliver as secretary

Have you been on a short term mission trip? We have the opportunity to make a week long mission trip to Casa de Luz in Primo Tapia, Mexico from July 20th to the 27th. This is the ministry that Pastor Don visited in January. You can learn more about this ministry at casadeluzmexico.com. This is a unique trip in which we encourage families to travel together with us. Your children will be given an opportunity to be part of something significant that will impact their lives as well as yours.   • Regretfully accepted the resignation of Pastor Steven Li from the position of Cantonese and Mandarin Caring and Evangelism Pastor effective June 1, 2024.
  • Pastor Victor Lee has been invited to join us as a part-time Cantonese pastor, beginning June 1, 2024, for a contract of one year. He will work no less than 22 hours per week with two months of vacation per year. Despite not receiving a salary from the church, he still must abide by all the staff handbook’s rules and regulations. (Pastor Victor accepted the invitation)
  • Several projects in Phase 1 of the renovation plan have been completed or are currently underway.
  • In Phase 2 of the renovation plan, the deacon board has approved breaking down the wall between A8 and A9, as well as the southern walls of these rooms next to the corridor. This will create a larger multipurpose room for worship and other activities, pending structural feasibility and cost effectiveness.
  • The senior pastoral transition timeline and potential structural changes for the church in 2025, in the event of no senior pastor, were tabled for additional examination and deliberation.
  • The church survey and personal information policy will progress as planned.
  • The handbook of cybersecurity of the church was received for further discussion and action.
  • The mission department has endorsed a potential short-term mission trip to Mexico in July, to be led by Pastor Don Dyck.
